The Creativity Challenge: Five Minutes of Creativity a Day

Alyson Swihart How To Start

I don't know about you, but somewhere I put my creativity on the back burner. I've asked others, and they likewise say the same thing. Creativity? Who has the time? It seems that we are all overwhelmed with our to-do lists or our obsession that if anything is of value, it needs to be making us money. And so, we've left creativity out on the porch on a rainy day. I know deep down inside that fostering creativity will reward us 10-fold that of any paycheck; and creativity is essential to brewing your best life. So, I'm here to put myself on blast. It's time to get more creative. Over the next few days and weeks, I'll be experimenting with creativity. I vow to do something creative for at least 5 minutes a day. If I can, you can too!

Creativity reduces anxiety and stress. I know that as I create, I am escorted into another world. All my worrying melt away, and I am completely present in the moment. That's why I started making soap, to stop thinking about my classroom (I'm a retired teacher). Lo and behold, it turned into a business, though, the first two years, soaping was my sanity.

Creativity doesn't have to be a BIG thing. It can be as small as drawing stick figures, playing with playdoh with your toddler, or writing a letter to a friend. The most important thing is just to get started.

So, today I start five minutes of creativity a day. Who's with me?
