How to Overcome the Mentality That You Are Not Creative

Alyson Swihart Brewing Creativity How To Start The Creativity Challenge

You may think you're not creative.

Well, you are talking to the most non-creative person out there.  If you were to give me a blob of clay and told me to make a bowl, it would most likely come out looking like a poop emoji.

What I'm good at is learning and following directions.  And that is how I begin any creative journey.  I learn, and I read.   I know it's not going to be perfect. That's not the point.  The point is to get out of my head.

I've learned how to knit with a Knifty Knitter because it's something I can do in 2 hours (Read more about how to figure out what type of creative you are HERE) A real knitter would say 'That's not real knitting." And they may be right, but that's not the point.  The point is to get out of my head.

Bullet journals are a fun idea, though mine never look Pinterest worthy.  Mine are colleagues, where I cut pictures out of magazines and paste them into a book. It's ok that it's not something I would post to Pinterest, that's not the point. The point is (say it with me) to get out of my head.

To Brew Creativity, like anything you brew up: Ask yourself what will work for you? Only do that. Stay in your lane; don't compare yourself to anyone. Create a ton of poop emojis, imperfectly perfect drawing, and plenty of burnt dinners. It's not about perfection; it's about destressing and getting in touch with yourself. (You thought I was going to say 'Get out of my head,' didn't you?)
